When I first walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome, and when ordering a fish supper, the waiting time was no more than 5 minutes. In the meantime, I was asking about the area since I am new to Portobello. They were accommodating, and knowing a family ran it made it ten times better to try the food. When it came to tasting it, the fish batter was soft but crispy and not hard to chew on, and the chips were just perfect for me. I enjoyed it and can’t wait to try one of their pizzas next.

Amazing fish and chips! The sweetest couple run this place. Fish is cooked fresh to order and was truly delicious. Flakey and perfect. Great chips too. Lovely lovely people who deserve local support! The shop is like it’s out of the 80s and my partner and I loved grabbing the fish suppers and eating on the beach.

We left Edinburgh's city center to visit the beach and found this place to grab two fish and chips and eat them at the beach. There were absolutely wonderful, very tasty and fresh. Golden Bite is a great place and the people there are wonderful. If you want something to eat at the beach stop there before to grab something, the experience is fantastic. We recommend!
Absolutely AMAZING experience. We went as a university society with an absolutely massive group of people (we did call ahead to try and warn them of the horde that was about to descend). They handled the shed load of people without even breaking a sweat, and were super lovely as well. I felt really bad about bringing so many people at once, and they did have to stay open an extra hour for us, which I felt awful about, but they were absolutely lovely about it! In terms of food, no notes. Stunning. It ate, literally. One of the best chippies I've ever had, and definitely top in Edinburgh. Even after serving 63 of us the food was still top quality and utterly delicious. Batter crispy, chips the perfect ratio of fluffy:crispy, and well salted as well. All for a very reasonable price too, considering we were on the beach. Overall, an absolutely STUNNING experience with the best food, vibes, and service. A real family business. If you're ever in portobello and in need of a chippy, golden bite is the plaice to go.
